Unmasking Hidden Corrosion
Corrosion on the steel beneath insulation or fireproofing is one of the most pervasive and difficult problems to prevent in industrial environments. Whether your facility faces extreme weather shifts or regular process-driven temperature changes, moisture inevitably finds its way under the protective layer. Our specialized CUI inspection services identify these vulnerabilities without the massive expense of removing insulation or cladding.
The Russell NDE Bracelet Probe is the industry’s most effective non-destructive tool for managing CUF inspection and CUI programs. Unlike traditional spot-checking, our electromagnetic technology scans up to 5 meters (15 feet) per minute through insulation up to 125mm (5 inches) thick, fireproofing, and aluminum or stainless-steel jackets. By utilizing a 250mm (10-inch) wide scan path, we provide a high-resolution view of your asset’s integrity in real time, allowing for a surgical, focused approach to repairs.
This versatility makes the Bracelet Probe the go-to solution for horizontal and vertical pipes, storage tanks, and fireproofed sphere legs. By performing routine CUI inspection, you can locate external corrosion before it leads to loss of containment, production revenue, or safety incidents. Our tools provide 3D color maps and strip charts that make changes in wall thickness, graphitization, and erosion immediately visible to your engineering team.
Our CUI detection services often use rope access technicians to deploy the Bracelet Probe on elevated piping and vessels.
We recommend targeting insulation terminations, low points in piping, and areas where the outer cladding shows visible damage or moisture ingress.
Yes. The high-resolution sensors provide a distinct signal that allows technicians to differentiate between general oxidation and localized pitting.
Our probe allows you to scan miles of piping to identify the specific 5% requiring repair, saving the massive capital outlay of total insulation removal.
Results are instantaneous, allowing you to mark defect locations on the cladding immediately for surgical, localized insulation removal and repair.
Yes. We provide digital reports and 3D color maps that integrate with asset management systems to track corrosion rates over multiple cycles.
Russell also offers an internal Bracelet Probe that can be deployed robotically to perform 60cm (24”) long x 360 degree spot checks for internal and external corrosion in critical large diameter water mains. The Internal B.P. scans the pipe looking for localized pitting from water-side or soil-side corrosion. It can scan through cement or bitumastic liners up to 25mm (1”) thick. Speed is controlled by electric stepper-motors, and the device has an odometer attached to indicate distance scanned and clock location of defects.
